Malwlevanda

This series explores the cost of choice and the internal battle we face when different ideas or opportunities compete for our attention. The title, Malwlevanda, is a Tshivenda word for twins, alluding to the idea that both paths can be important and viable.

The paintings are centered around the polarized opportunity cost—the reality that prioritizing one path means a different journey for the other. The faces in this collection are rendered in equal proportions, symbolizing the equal weight of each potential decision. At the moment of conception, all possibilities have the same chance of making it through the door. This series is a reflection on the universal experience of being caught between paths, highlighting that a decision isn't always a permanent sacrifice. Sometimes, like a twin following their sibling, the second option just needs time to find its way through the door.
